Volunteering Has its Rewards

At the beginning of the school year I volunteered to teach the Junior Achievement lessons for Bronson's class. I figured it wouldn't be any big deal because I taught Ashby's the year before for the same grade. I guess I was more energetic and willing to help at the beginning of the year, because as the year wore on, I kept wishing I had never volunteered and wanted to get out of it. But, I decided to be a trooper and forge on. Rather than teach once a week for five weeks, Bronson's teacher wanted me to teach all five lessons in one week. I liked that much better, but it was a lot of work and time to prepare the lessons and spend time over at the school teaching. Once I am there I have a great time. One funny sideline - On my last morning I was wearing an Aeropostale t-shirt. One of the little girls said to me with wonder and amazement, "You shop at Aeropostale?" I wasn't sure whether to take that as a compliment as she thought I was cool, or maybe as an insult as she was thinking that I am too old and fat to shop at a store geared for the teeny boppers. For my self-esteem, I chose to take it as a compliment.
After my week I was glad it was over and glad I got a chance to do it because I really got to know Bronson's classmates and had a fun time. It was definitely all worth it when Monday afternoon Bronson brought home a bag full of thank-you cards from each student in his class. Here is my favorite:

I am sure you can all take comfort knowing that I do not have lice and neither does Amberly.

Stupid People Really Annoy Me

So, today I went to JoAnn's Fabrics and Crafts to get some glue dots for the Daddy & Daughter Activity Day invitations that I stupidly agreed to make one month ago, when November seemed so far away. I had to make 35 of them. Of course, in true Moore girl tradition, I couldn't just print some stupid invite, I had to make this elaborate invitation that took me forever to make. About 8 hours, I think. I don't have 8 hours! My right arm is just killing me ! But, I must say, they did turn out to be so cute!

Okay. Back to my story. I ran into JoAnn's to grab glue dots to finish my invitations. I was in a total hurry, and I am not familiar with the store, so I was so glad when there was an employee standing in the first aisle I went to. The aisle that she was standing in was the aisle that contained paper and other misc. scrapbook supplies. I asked her where the glue dots were. She stared at me with this blank stare and said, "What are glue dots?" What? You don't know what glue dots are? What a moron. I didn't say this to her, but I thought it. So, I tried to describe them to her. More blank stare, with her tongue hanging out a bit. I promptly moved on and found them on my own.

This reminded me of a similar incident years ago when I went to Mac's Crafts in Sandy and asked the girl where they kept their raffia. She gave me this half-retarded, half-irritated look and said, "What is raffia?". I was just in enough of a mood that I said to her, "You mean, you work in a craft store and you don't know what raffia is ? ? ?"
